Rabat – Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn is set to lead a delegation to pay an official visit to Morocco on 27-28 March.
During the visit, Sokhonn will meet Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita to strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries and sign an agreement on air connectivity with Morocco.
Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release reads: “Sokhonn will have a bilateral meeting with his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita to discuss the strengthening of Cambodia-Morocco relations and cooperation in various areas such as economy, trade, tourism, agriculture and education, as well as regional and international issues of common interest and concern:”
After the meeting takes place, the ministers are scheduled to sign several cooperation agreements “including the Agreement on Air Services,” the press release detailed.
The agreement aims to promote tourism, business, and trade links between the two nations.The minister’s visit to Morocco aims to further strengthen and expand existing traditional ties and cooperation with Cambodia.
In January 2022, the Moroccan and Cambodian head diplomats signed an agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and service passport holders, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding between the Moroccan Academy of Diplomatic Studies and the Cambodian National Institute of Diplomacy and International Studies.
Bilateral collaboration between Morocco and Cambodia expands Morocco’s diplomatic reach to Southeast Asia.
In 2016, Morocco signed a Treaty of Friendship Cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which aims to enhance peace, friendship, and mutual cooperation on matters affecting Southeast Asia.
