Rabat – Moroccan writer and critic Mustapha Rajouan won the Al-Babtain Prize for Poetic Creativity during the 18th edition of Kuwait’s Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain Cultural Foundation awards.
Rajouan won in the category of the best book of poetic criticism for his book “Poetics and Harmony of Discourse: The Linguistics of the Text and the Poetics of Jean Cohen.”
The ceremony was devoted to honoring creative poets and critics who have won the foundation’s awards of both 17th and 18th editions, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
Egyptian critic Ahmed Darwish also won the poetic creativity prize for his book “The reception of poetry.”
Sudanese poet Roda Al-Hajj won the foundation’s best poetic volume award and Jordanian poet Abdullah Abu Shmais won the best poem award.
Meanwhile, Palestinian poet Alaa Al-Qatrawi won the award in the young poets’ category while Saudi poet Abdulaziz Khoja won the foundation’s Appreciation Award.
This year’s edition has attracted wide scale participation from different countries in the Arab world. The number of applications reached more than 826 in the prize’s different categories.
In March 2022, Rajouan was shortlisted in the 16th edition of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award.
He was selected for the “Young Author” category for his book “The Rhetorical Being: Language, Reason, and Ability in the Book Al-Bayan wa Al-Tabeen”, published by Dar Kounouz Al-Maarifa in 2021.
