Rabat – Morocco’s Royal Federation of Football (FRMF) revealed on Friday that three Moroccan clubs will represent Morocco in the King Salman Club Cup, organized by the Union of Arab Football Associations (UAFA).

The participating Moroccan clubs include Raja Club Athletic (RCA), Wydad Athletic Club (WAC), and AS FAR, the federation indicated in a press release.

Upon receiving a participation request from the LNFP, the FRMF, alongside the National Professional Football League (LNFP), approved the participation of Moroccan clubs in the tournament, given that its date does not overlap with the program of the Moroccan football league Botola Pro 1.

The federation determined the Moroccan teams participating in the regional tournament based on “sporting merit,” as demanded by the UAFA, noted the statement.

The Arab Union Football Associations invited RCA to take part in the sporting event as the reigning champions of the tournament. The Casablanca-based club won the title after beating Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad Jeddah 4-3 in penalty shootouts after a 4-4 tie.

Meanwhile, WAC is participating in the tournament as the reigning champions of the Botola Pro 1. The club won the Moroccan league for the 2021-2022 season after beating MC Oujda 2-0, claiming their 21st championship.

In addition, Rabat-based club FAR is participating as the third-place holder at the Botola Pro, after WAC and RCA.

FRMF and LNFP extended their best wishes to the three Moroccan clubs for the upcoming Arab competition.

Named after Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Al Saud, the Arab Club Champions Cup is set to take place between July 20 and August 5, 2023, in the Saudi cities of Abha, Al-Baha, and Taif.

UAFA President Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal extended his thanks to King Salman for approving the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup to be named after him.

“The championship bears a name dear to all Arab athletes,” said UAFA Secretary General Raja Allah Al-Salami.
