Rabat – Rabat hosted on Wednesday the 58th meeting of the Arab Higher Committee for Standardization which called for joint Arab action between the various actors involved in standardization.

The meeting was marked by the presence of representatives of several organizations, including the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the Arab League with the participation of 19 Arab countries.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting the Director General of AIDSMO, Adel Al-Saqer, thanked King Mohammed VI for all of his efforts in support of AIDSMO and joint Arab cooperation.

Saker highlighted that standardization plays an important role today, emphasizing the importance of supporting the efforts of international standardization organizations, particularly through effective and sustainable strategic partnerships to support the international standardization system.

He also noted that the Organization works to remove trade barriers between member countries, and to ensure better consumer protection from various risks, through the development of Arab standardization principles in accordance with international norms.

For his part, the ISO Deputy Secretary-General, Silvio Dulinsky, said that the MENA region has a huge potential for development. He explained, however, that the region has a large untapped solar capacity for electricity generation.

He also noted that 12 of the 17 countries most affected by water scarcity are in the MENA region, stressing the need to redouble efforts to tackle this issue.

Dulinsky added that this meeting served as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation in the field of standardization to bring about the necessary changes and promote sustainable growth throughout the region.

On the sidelines of the meeting, AIDSMO signed two agreements with ISO and IEC to strengthen cooperation and encourage the adoption of ISO standards by AIDSMO member countries and the adoption of standards at the regional level.

The event was organized by the The Arab Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining Organization (AIDSMO).
