Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Tourism Fatim Zahra Ammor announced today the launch of the 2023-2026 roadmap to develop the country’s tourism sector.
With an allocated funding of MAD 6 Billion ($578,3 million), the roadmap aims to attract 17.5 million tourists, generate MAD 120 Billion ($11,5 billion) in receipts and create 200,000 new jobs by 2026.
Ammor made the statement during the signing ceremony of the framework agreement for the 2023-2026 roadmap, which was chaired by the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch.
The agreement was signed by Ammor, the Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication Mehdi Bensaid, FRMF’s President Fouzi Lekjaa, and CNT President Hamid Bentahar.
Also present at the signing ceremony were the Economy and Finance Minister, Nadia Fettah Alaoui; Director General of the national tourism office, Adel El Fakir, as well as Chairman & CEO of the Moroccan Agency for Tourism Development (SMIT), Imad Barrakad.
During the event, Ammor emphasized that the roadmap will help Morocco to establish itself as one of the world’s leading tourist destinations.
Sharing the news on her Linkedin account, the minister highlighted that Morocco is experiencing an “unprecedented momentum,” while stressing that the roadmap provides an excellent opportunity to “transform the tourism sector, both in terms of quantity and quality.”
Doubling the number of tourist arrivals to 26 million by 2030
She noted that the tourism strategy addresses all “essential growth levers,” such as improving customer experience, collaborating more closely with tour operators, encouraging investment in accommodation, as well as training and retaining top-notch talent.
For his part, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, explained that the air transport sector plays an important role in the implementation of this roadmap.
He stressed the importance of adapting Morocco’s airports to accommodate tourists in the best conditions.
Ammor recalled that Morocco attracted nearly 11 million tourists in 2022, or a recovery rate of 84% of tourist arrivals in 2019, exceeding the world average of 63%.
“The sector has recovered 116% of tourism revenues in foreign currency compared to 2019,” said Ammor, noting that the remarkable results achieved during the recovery period prompted the ambitious target of doubling the number of arrivals to 26 million by 2030.
