Thursday, March 23 is the official start date of Ramadan 2023 in Bahrain, according to the country’s news agency BNA.
Like Saudi Arabia and UAE, the Bahraini news agency announced that the crescent moon was invisible, and therefore Thursday marks the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
Bahrainis celebrate the holy month of Ramadan through different customs and traditions, one of which is the decoration of streets with lights to welcome the holy month.
Serving traditional food and sweets are also part of Ramadan’s daily activities among Bahrainis.
Many countries in the Gulf region announced Thursday as the first day of Ramadan 2023, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar.
Most of the world’s Muslims observe the holy month of Ramadan as it is the most important one on the Islamic “Hijri” calendar.
In addition to its unique spiritual atmosphere, Ramadan is also significant for Muslims as it is when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the prophet Muhammad.
Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, when Muslims abstain from drinking and eating from dawn to sunset.
Drinking or eating is only allowed for children who have not reached puberty and people with valid exemptions such as illness.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women are also encouraged to not fast if they are unable to do so.
