Rabat – French millionaire Jaques Bouthier, who had been detained since May 2022 over a series of rape allegations filed by Moroccan women, was freed from custody on Monday following medical concerns.
French outlet Le Parisien reported that the former CEO of the insurance company Assu 2000 was released after being bailed out for €500,000.
The news website added that the millionaire’s medical report suggested he was suffering from “malnutrition.”
The now 75-year-old man was advised to go to the hospital as soon as possible, with the court stating that the nature of Bouthier’s release is only temporary so that he can receive the necessary medical treatment.
The temporary release also carries some judiciary conditions that Bouthier must comply with.
Several Moroccan women, including a minor, came forward last year with serious rape allegations against Bouthier. Two of the women were employed by Bouthier during his time as CEO.
The allegations also included blackmail and human trafficking. One of the accusers said she was captured by the millionaire for a period of five years.
Following the court’s decision to temporarily release Bouthier, a French lawyer told BFMTV: “The investigative judge’s decision will increase the suffering of the victims of the businessman.”
