Rabat – Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is expected to receive an Embraer E190 aircraft as part of its expansion approach.

The new delivery will bring the number of Embraer E190 aircraft Royal Air Maroc uses to five, a source told Moroccan news outlet Le360.

The aircraft will also expand the airline’s fleet to 66 aircraft, the same source added.

The aircraft will feature 96 seats, including 84 in economy class and 12 in business class.

“The airline opted for a leasing arrangement, a common practice in the aviation industry that allows carriers to quickly increase capacity while limiting investment costs,” the news outlet reported.

No official date for the delivery and its entry into service has yet been announced.

Embraer E190 is a popular aircraft manufactured by Brazilian aerospace company Embraer, with which Morocco has been exploring cooperation.

In 2024, Morocco and the Brazilian manufacturer signed a memorandum of understanding to launch joint projects in the Moroccan aerospace industry.

In May of this year, reports also said Morocco and Brazil are reportedly in advanced negotiations over a deal worth approximately $600 million for the acquisition of up to five KC-390 Millennium military transport aircraft, manufactured by Embraer.

Royal Air Maroc, which is Morocco’s national carrier, has been pledging to strengthen its fleet, especially amid prestigious events like the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2030, which Morocco is co-hosting alongside Portugal and Spain.

The airline’s pledges also come as Morocco strengthens its tourism position across the world, with the country set to welcome more than 26 million tourists by 2030.

The airline, however, has been facing scrutiny for years for several challenges, including luggage management.

Recently, reports said passengers aboard Royal Air Maroc’s Flight AT201 at JFK Airport in New York reported spending nearly five hours inside the aircraft after a technical issue delayed departure.

According to passengers, the crew initially announced that repairs were underway, but the flight was ultimately canceled.

Travelers said they remained on board without air conditioning for several hours and had limited access to water while awaiting further instructions from the airline.
