Rabat – A training session on climate action organized by United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG) is taking place in Morocco at the Higher Institute of Information and Communication (ISIC), Rabat from March 1- 10.
Under the theme “together for a better performing local Africa,” this training aims to address climate change issues in Africa by coaching African officials, professors, and executives on issues related to climate action.
One of the primary objectives of the initiative is to raise awareness about climate issues in local African communities, the press release stated. This includes promoting an understanding of the ecological transition of African territories and the continent’s strategy of adaptation to climate change.
The main goal of the initiative is to improve the performance of local African communities in addressing climate issues by providing training and support.
In an interview with Morocco World News, Abdoulkader Iman Aden, President of the commune of Boulaos, Djibouti, and a participant in the program, emphasized the importance of reducing climate change.
Aden explained the aim “Is for individuals to take responsibility for reducing climate change at their local level, be it in their village, neighborhood, or place of residence, by addressing all factors that contribute to this issue.”
In the context of the current climate crisis, he described the situation as “alarming,” noting that it is vital to take action. Aden detailed that raising awareness among the population “is essential,” in addition he said, “we must educate future generations on good environmental practices.”
This training program is held in collaboration with The French Agency for Ecological Transition as a continuation of the first session held from November 29 to December 3, 2022, in Agadir.
