Rabat – Eid Al Fitr 2023 is expected to fall on Friday, April 21 in China, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan and with it the mandatory month-long fast.

According to outlet Hamari Web, the Eid is expected to begin on Friday with most Muslim countries also observing the new moon for the month of Shawwal the day before.

Eid Al Fitr is a major Islamic holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the holiest month for Muslims, where they are obligated to observe a daily fast for the entire month.

While Muslims make up only 2% of China’s population, that number still reaches over 28 million people according to various estimates, meaning a significant number will be celebrating in the country.

Muslims celebrate the Eid by attending an early morning prayer that is followed by a religious sermon, known in Arabic as “khutba.”

Celebrations also include big breakfasts in the morning with traditional culture-specific food as a way to end the Ramadan fast. Families often exchange visits and foods.

Children also celebrate, with many receiving clothes, toys, or money as gifts for the occasion.

Since the Islamic Hijri calendar is based on the lunar cycle, the beginning and end dates for individual months depend on the sighting of the crescent moon the day before.
