Rabat – Turkiye will celebrate Eid Al Fitr, the festival marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, on April 21, according to the country’s Directorate of Religious Affairs.
The directorate said that the holy month of Ramadan will last a total of 29 days in Turkiye, from March 23 to April 20.
It also indicated that Laylat Al Qadr, one of the holiest nights in Islam, will be observed on April 17. Muslims usually commemorate the special night, which holds great significance for worshippers worldwide, by performing different acts of worship and devotion.
This includes spending the night praying and reciting the Quran, as well as doing charitable activities and donating to those in need.
For Turkish people, Ramadan 2023 has been an opportunity to show solidarity with the victims of the disastrous earthquake that hit the country earlier this year.
On February 6, 2023, a tragic earthquake struck southern and central Turkiye and northern and western Syria, claiming the lives of over 50,000 people.
Before the holy month had begun, Turkish scholar and President of Religious Affairs Ali Erbas said that the theme of this year’s Ramadan is “Ramadan and Solidarity,” an opportunity to help those affected by the earthquake.
Several initiatives were carried out in the regions affected by the earthquake, with the aim of providing locals with financial and moral support.
Eid Al Fitr marks the first day of returning to a normal eating schedule. The religious celebration is an opportunity for Muslims to gather with family and loved ones to exchange gifts and share meals.
