Fez – Elon Musk has regained his status as the world’s first trillionaire after strong gains in the share prices of SpaceX and Tesla increased his net worth by more than $60 billion in a single day.
According to Forbes, Musk’s fortune rose by an estimated $62.3 billion on Monday as SpaceX shares climbed 7.6% and Tesla gained 8.6%.Â
The surge lifted his net worth back above the $1 trillion mark after it briefly fell below that level last week.
Musk remains the world’s richest person by a wide margin, ahead of Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.Â
However, his current wealth is still below the record $1.45 trillion he reached on June 16.
The rebound follows a decline linked to changes in the way Musk’s Tesla holdings were valued.Â
Forbes removed around $116 billion in restricted Tesla stock from its wealth estimates after Musk used $7.1 billion worth of shares to cover the cost of exercising stock options awarded under his 2018 CEO compensation package.
Those stock options were initially cancelled by a Delaware court in 2024 before being reinstated by the state’s Supreme Court in 2025.Â
Following that decision, Tesla introduced a new compensation package that will only fully vest if Musk remains in a senior leadership position through January 2028.
At the same time, SpaceX shares had lost part of the strong gains they made after the company’s record-breaking initial public offering earlier this month, adding further pressure to Musk’s net worth before Monday’s recovery.
Musk became the world’s first trillionaire earlier in June after SpaceX’s public market debut pushed his wealth above $1.1 trillion.Â
The milestone followed a series of record achievements over the past two years, including becoming the first person to surpass net worth levels of $400 billion, $500 billion, and every subsequent $100 billion mark through early 2026.
Meanwhile, Tesla shareholders approved a new compensation package for Musk in November that could eventually be worth close to $1 trillion if the company meets a series of long-term performance targets over the coming decade.
