Rabat -Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR) have announced that they will expand their firefighting capabilities with the arrival of a new Canadair CL-415 aircraft to the air base today.

Considered one of the most expensive aerial firefighting aircrafts available on the market, this new addition will reinforce FAR’s existing fleet of five Canadairs, bringing the total to six.

FAR took to Twitter to make the announcement, saying: “The Moroccan Canadair CN-ATS has successfully flown across the Atlantic and has arrived in Portugal’s Azores islands.”

The aircraft is expected to reach its destination at the Third Air Base in Morocco today, becoming the sixth Canadair to join the Royal Air Force’s fleet.

This new addition to FAR’s fleet comes at a critical time, as the country braces for summer and heatwaves. With temperatures rising and the risk of wildfires increasing, the country’s needs to enhance its firefighting capabilities.

The firefighting aircraft also known as “the Bombardier 415 Superscooper,” is the successor to the Canadair CL-215. It is used for disaster relief, firefighting, law enforcement, and military transportation.

Equipped with an array of technologies and features, including advanced water bombing capabilities. It can scoop up to 5,455 liters of water in just 12 seconds and can reach a maximum speed of 376 km/h.

According to reports, the CL-415’s cost is estimated at $37 million, making it one of the most expensive aerial firefighting aircraft in the market.

FAR noted that this is the second of the three Canadair planes acquired last year by the Kingdom, bringing the total number of planes in the Royal Air Force’s fleet to eight.
