Rabat – Scandinavian Airlines, one of the largest airlines in northern Europe,  will connect the Moroccan city of Agadir with Stockholm and Copenhagen in the 2023 winter season.

The flights are part of an agreement between Scandinavian Airlines and Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT).

ONMT General manager Adel El Fakir has recently signed an agreement with the airline’s general manager Erik Westman.

Under the agreement, Scandinavian Airlines will launch weekly direct flights to connect Agadir to the two destinations, starting November 2023.

Commenting on the agreement,  El Fakir stressed that the partnership will allow ONMT to secure seats and tourist flows.

It will also “guarantee a good winter season for the Agadir seaside resort,” he said, emphasizing that the agreement is a big step in promoting Morocco’s tourism market and its growth.

Under the agreement, Marrakech will also be connected to Sweden and Denmark thanks to a partnership with low-cost company Norwegian Air Shuttle.

The partnership seeks to strengthen ONMT’s presence in the Scandinavian market, which provides over 30 million tourists that could contribute to the development of Morocco’s tourism revenue.

The tourism sector generated a revenue of $9.2 billion at the end of 2022.

Experts in the field expect an increase in tourists flow into Morocco, which attracted over 2.9 million tourists in the first quarter of 2023.

By 2026, the North African country’s tourism industry aims to attract 17.5 million tourists, as well as create 200,000 new jobs.
