Rabat – Meeting on Friday last week at the headquarters of the International University of Andalusia in Seville, a group of universities from Morocco and Andalusia, Spain, discussed potential cooperation in different fields, including scientific research and cultural partnership.
The academic meeting brought together academics, and university officials from several universities, including Spanish University, as well as the General Secretariat of Universities of the Government of Andalusia, as well as the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P).
UM6P President Hicham El Habti stressed the importance of cooperation between Andalusian universities and UM6P in different fields, including in research and expertise sharing on different priority challenges like water management, green Hydrogen, and renewable energies.
El Habti also introduced the Moroccan university during the event, stressing that it includes over 4,400 students in different majors. The UM6P president further outlined the university’s diversity, emphasizing that students in UM6p come from different nationalities estimated at 30.
Jose Ignacio Garcia, President of the International University of Seville echoed the same desire of universities in Andalusia, stressing that they shared the same objective to strengthen cooperation in academic fields, notably scientific research.
As well as agreeing to a framework of cooperation, the Moroccan and Spanish universities pledged to hold a meeting in the next fall semester between Moroccan and Andalusian universities.
Last week’s meeting came amid Spain and Morocco’s determination to boost cooperation in all sectors, including education.
In February, Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jose Manuel Albares stressed that the new phase of cooperation between Spain and Morocco includes “ a new and very important chapter, namely education and culture.”
Albares explained: “Our societies must get to know each other better, which is why we signed an agreement to establish new bilingual programs in Moroccan schools with a potential of up to 100 schools, as well as the construction of a new Spanish public high school in Rabat.”
