Rabat’s 28th annual International Book Fair reached its grand conclusion on the evening of June 11, 2023. The event, which attracted exhibitors from all corners of the globe, including universities, embassies, and authors, was a resounding success, drawing a staggering 240,000 visitors.

The book fair showcased the diversity of global literature, with more than 700 exhibitors representing over 50 countries.

A total of over 120,000 titles from various academic and creative fields were presented at the fair, captivating the imaginations of the visitors.

Setting a new record in the exhibition’s history, the programming of this year’s event featured over 1,200 exhibits, of which more than 300 were organized directly by the Ministry of Youth and Culture or in partnership with scientific and governmental institutions dedicated to promoting books and reading.

The participants included several renowned writers, thinkers, researchers, and poets who took part in talks and lectures on various subjects.

The book fair also dedicated a space to educational and entertaining presentations for children, with over 600 workshops that showcased “the tangible and intangible manifestations of Moroccan culture,” a press release from the organizers said.

The event also garnered extensive media coverage, with over 80 visual, sound, print, and electronic media organizations from Morocco and abroad participating, reaching 700 journalists who were present for coverage.

The 28th edition of the International Book Fair “presented Morocco’s cultural image to the world while also introducing world cultures to an enthusiastic Moroccan audience that demonstrated its unyielding thirst for knowledge and profound connection to books,” the press release said.

In commemoration of the sixtieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Canada, the event featured Canada as a special guest, further solidifying ties between the two nations, the organizers added.

The event’s impressive attendance numbers solidified its reputation as a platform for fostering cultural dialogue, encouraging creative exchange, and emphasizing the profound significance of literature in a rapidly evolving world.

Additionally, this year’s event had a strong focus on English literature, offering a lineup of authors, poets, and intellectuals a platform to show off their work to new audiences.

The event was organized through a partnership between Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, the Regional Council of the Kenitra-Sale-Rabat region, and the Wilaya of the Kenitra-Sale-Rabat region.
