Rabat –  King Mohammed VI has sent a letter of condolences to the family of late professor and politician Mohamed Lahbabi, who passed away on June 20 in Rabat at the age of 99 after a long battle with illness.

In his message, the King expressed his “deep sorrow” upon receiving the news of Lahbabi’s passing.

The monarch extended his heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, his academic community, as well as the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), which he was a member of.

Describing Lahbib as a remarkable figure, the King highlighted his human qualities and strong commitment to national principles and values.

He recalled Lahbib’s rich scientific and intellectual contributions throughout his life in the fields of economics and politics.

In addition, the King highlighted the late professor’s patriotism and devotion to defending Morocco’s values and best interests.

Lahbabi’s passing has left a void in the academic and political spheres, as well as in the hearts of those who knew and admired him, the monarch noted.

The late professor and politician will be remembered as an inspiring figure for his dedication, expertise, and commitment to his country.

Born in 1924 in Fez, Lahbib studied law and science at the Paris Institute of Political Studies.

In 1959, he participated in the founding of the National Union of Popular Forces (UNFP), before founding the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) alongside his mentor Abderrahim Bouabid.
