Rabat – Nigeria’s women football team will lock horns with its Canadian counterpart at the 2023 Women’s World Cup as part of their opening group stage game.

The clash will kick off on Friday at 03:30 am GMT+1 at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium in Australia, which is co-hosting the tournament with New Zealand.

The match will air live on Fox Sports Media Group, which holds the English-language rights to the tournament’s games in the US. Games can also be streamed.

Football fans in Canada can watch the game on Bell Media, while those in Nigeria can stream it live on AfroSport.

The Canadian national team has taken part in seven of the tournament’s eight editions, only failing to qualify for the Women’s World Cup’s inaugural edition in 1991.

In their seven previous World Cup playings, Canada has reached the semi-finals once, the quarter-finals once, and advanced to the Round of 16 once.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Super Falcons have participated in every edition of the Women’s World Cup since its inception in 1991. However, the team has only advanced beyond the group stage twice.

Canada fares better than Nigeria in the current FIFA rankings, with the Canadians coming seventh while Nigeria is ranked in the 40th place.

Nigeria and Canada are in Group B alongside Ireland and host Australia.

Following tomorrow’s game, Nigeria will lock horns with Australia on July 27, before playing against Ireland on July 31.

Meanwhile, Canada will play against Ireland on July 26, and against Australia on July 31.
