Rabat – Morocco triumphed at the 1st edition of the Para Karate event within the African Karate Championship, securing two medals on Friday. The championship, which began on August 14 and runs until August 20, has seen athletes from across the continent gather in Casablanca to showcase their prowess in the martial art, reported Morocco state media. 

Said Mahmoudi emerged as the standout performer for Morocco, clinching the coveted gold medal in the “Para exhibition” category. His outstanding performance captivated the audience and demonstrated the relentlessness he had put into his training. Mahmoudi’s achievement not only reflects his personal dedication but also highlights Morocco’s growing pool of karate talents.

Another moment of pride came for Morocco when Mouad Arrid secured a bronze medal in the “intellectual disability” category, specifically K22. Arrid’s accomplishment underlines the championship’s commitment to inclusivity and providing opportunities for athletes with diverse abilities to excel on a competitive platform.

Organized by the Royal Moroccan Federation of Karate and Associated Disciplines (FRMKDA), the championship boasts an impressive array of editions, including the 22nd Senior Edition, the 14th Junior Edition, the 6th Cadet Edition, and the inaugural Para Karate Edition. The championship is held under the watchful guidance of the World Karate Federation (WKF), a testament to the event’s global significance.

Expectations are running high as the 2023 African Karate Championship unfolds, with more than 1000 participants anticipated to join the event. Athletes, coaches, technical staff, referees, and representatives from various committees have converged from over 27 countries, contributing to a vibrant atmosphere of camaraderie and competition.

The championship not only celebrates the spirit of karate but also stands as a platform for fostering cross-cultural connections and showcasing the resilience and dedication of athletes from all walks of life. 

By securing medals in the Para Karate event, Morocco has demonstrated its commitment to promoting inclusivity and providing opportunities for athletes of all abilities to shine on the global stage.
