Rabat – France’s women’s football team has secured a 4-0 victory against Morocco in the round of 16 at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, ending the Atlas Lionesses’ honorable journey at the tournament.
While Morocco’s courageous performance captured the admiration of fans worldwide, it was France that ultimately emerged victorious, securing their place in the quarterfinals.
The Atlas Lionesses displayed a strong performance, doing their best to keep France from breaking through their defense line at first. However, France’s Kadidiatou Diani managed to open the scoring in the 15th minute.
Soon after, Kenza Dali scored Les Bleues’ second goal in the 20th minute, followed by a third goal three minutes later by Eugenie Le Sommer.
Although Morocco’s team bravely attempted to reach France’s goal, they could not penetrate the defense.
In the 70th minute, Le Sommer added a fourth goal for France and her second with a header from a cross by Vicki Becho.
Despite the loss, Morocco’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. The Moroccan team’s qualification for the World Cup marked a historic milestone, as they became the first country from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to achieve the feat.
Making it to the round of 16 further solidified their place in football history, showing the world the talent and determination present within the Moroccan team.
Throughout the tournament, Morocco displayed skillful play and impressive teamwork, earning them respect and admiration from opponents and fans alike.

Morocco initially faced a setback after sustaining a 6-0 loss against Germany in their World Cup opener. But with incredible resilience, they managed to come back stronger, beating South Korea and Colombia, which earned them a spot in the round of 16.
