Rabat – The “Marhaba 2023” operation, aimed at facilitating the transit of Moroccan expatriates and tourists, has seen remarkable success as more than 1.2 million travelers and 280,000 vehicles have passed through Moroccan ports between June 5 and July 31. These figures represent a notable increase of 21% in passenger traffic and 14% in vehicle traffic compared to the same period in the previous year.

The Ministry of Transport and Logistics has highlighted that the transit operation has been conducted smoothly and efficiently across various Moroccan ports. Notably, during the final days of July (29, 30, and 31), the ports experienced exceptional traffic during the entry phase, registering a significant influx of 117,042 passengers and 29,078 cars.

In an official statement, the ministry emphasized their commitment to ensuring the success of the “Marhaba 2023” operation. They have devoted substantial resources to guaranteeing the necessary technical and logistical prerequisites for transporting Moroccans living abroad. The efforts have included enhancing transportation capacities, diversifying maritime routes, and maintaining stringent quality controls on shipboard services.

Additionally, the authorities have closely monitored travel rates by sea to ensure a seamless journey for all passengers.

As the return phase of the operation is set to commence in the upcoming days, the ministry has extended an invitation to all travelers intending to return to Morocco to book their tickets in advance.

However, travelers are advised to confirm their travel dates and times while booking.

In cases where passengers need to modify their travel dates, they are encouraged to liaise with the relevant company prior to their arrival at the port. This proactive step aims to minimize any potential congestion at the transit ports and ensure a hassle-free experience for all passengers.

The Operation Marhaba initiative has been a longstanding annual effort by the Moroccan government to support and facilitate the movement of its citizens living abroad during the peak summer travel season. It not only underscores Morocco’s commitment to its diaspora but also contributes significantly to the country’s tourism and economic sectors.
