Omar El Kaddouri, a former Moroccan international, has suggested that Achraf Hakimi should return to Italian Club Inter Milan, where his level peaked and he established himself among the best in his position worldwide.
“I’d advise him to go back there, yeah,” El Kaddouri has been reported to have told the Italian broadcaster SportItalia. “That’s where he reached the highest level in his career. In my opinion, if there’s an opportunity to sign him, you have to take it.”
Hakimi transferred to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) from Inter Milan in the summer of 2021. As PSG boasted the presence of star players such as Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and later Lionel Messi, the Moroccan right-back’s move to the French club was largely seen as stemming from the player’s desire to hit higher milestones.
“Yet Hakimi arrived in Paris when they were a club with a lot of problems they’ve had to solve,” El Kaddouri said, suggesting that Inter Milan had less of such structural issues and allowed the Moroccan right-back to fully express his talents. “The best version of Hakimi we’ve seen was in Milan,” he stressed.
While El Kaddouri’s assessment may make sense for football observers, especially Hakimi’s fans who want to see the Moroccan thrive, Inter Milan’s difficult financial situation makes a potential return less likely.
El Kaddouri hinted at the financial aspect of his assessment, insisting that while re-signing the highly-rated Hakimi constitutes a good opportunity for Inter Milan, “he’d also cost a lot.”
As he appears to grapple with uncertainty in PSG despite being a regular starter, Hakimi was a much more fulfilled and invested player in Inter Milan, where his constantly incredible form contributed to the team winning the Serie A title in the 2020/2021 season.
During that season, the 24-year-old Moroccan superstar scored an overall number of 7 goals and made 11 assists in a total of 45 appearances with Inter Milan.
Achraf Hakimi still holds a valid contract with the French team Paris Saint-Germain till the end of summer 2026 with a current market value of €65M.
