Rabat – The Kingdom of Morocco has condemned the terrorist attack that targeted Bahraini forces participating in operations Decisive Storm and Restore Hope on the southern border of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The attack resulted in several fatalities and injuries among the Bahraini Defense Forces.
In a statement released by the Moroccan government, they expressed their “unwavering and steadfast solidarity” with Bahrain in the face of the terrorist act. Morocco also extended condolences to Bahrain and to the families of the victims.
Operations Decisive Storm and Restore Hope, performed by the Saudi-led coalition, are part of the Saudi intervention in the Yemen crisis.
Following the ousting of President Ali Abdullah Saleh in 2011, and after a breakdown in negotiations for a new draft constitution and power-sharing agreements, the country devolved into conflict between the government and Houthi rebel forces.
The conflict prompted then-president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi to request military support, which Saudi Arabia fulfilled in March 2015 alongside a coalition of countries from the Middle East and North Africa in Operation Decisive Storm.
In April, Saudi Arabia announced the end of Operation Decisive Storm and with it the airstrikes in the region, and announced the beginning of Operation Restore Hope, aiming to shift attention to the political process while continuing to counter any moves by the Houthis or their allies.
