Rabat – Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnique University (UM6P) unveiled today an ambitious initiative, the “Road to Marrakech – Diaspora Entrepreneurship Program,” aimed at harnessing the innovation potential of the African diaspora.
The program is open to entrepreneurs, startups, and individuals with innovative ideas within the African diaspora. It seeks to strengthen and support their efforts in addressing critical challenges, including climate change and its impact on the environment and communities.
Led by UM6P’s Entrepreneurship & Venturing Division, the program has opened applications for startups, with the submission deadline set for September 20, indicated the university in a press release.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to showcase their solutions at the upcoming “Demo Day,” scheduled to take place at the Benguerir campus alongside the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, scheduled between October 9 and 15 in Marrakech.
The event promises to serve as a valuable platform for African diaspora startups and entrepreneurs, empowering them to play a transformative role in shaping the continent’s future.
Through this initiative, UM6P aims to tackle some of Africa’s most pressing challenges, including sustainability, disruptive innovation, and climate change resilience.
The Moroccan university notably intends to foster the development and implementation of sustainable solutions for endemic challenges.

In addition, the program seeks to elevate creative industries to stimulate economic growth across the continent.
UM6P has also expressed commitment to creating innovative and resilient strategies to combat the impacts of climate change, benefiting both territories and their inhabitants.
Upon successful completion of the program, selected startups will receive ongoing support from UM6P’s Entrepreneurship & Venturing Division, including access to infrastructure and resources within the UM6P ecosystem.
Candidates will also gain access to financing programs, mentoring, and coaching opportunities to accelerate their growth and development.
The new program reflects UM6P’s longstanding commitment to addressing critical challenges, as well as empowering entrepreneurs in the region.
The university boasts a track record of actively engaging in initiatives that promote entrepreneurship, sustainability, education, and women empowerment.
The latest example is the innovative summer school that UM6P launched last month to empower African women in the fields of technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
