Rabat – In a comprehensive report presented on Wednesday to the Council of the Arab League, Secretary-General Ahmad Aboul Gheit praised Morocco for its pivotal role in resolving the Libyan crisis. In particular, the report lauded Morocco’s commitment to fostering stability in Libya and recognized its recent initiatives, including hosting the Joint Commission (6+6) meetings responsible for drafting electoral laws in Libya.
Morocco’s hosting of the Joint Commission meetings from May 22 to June 7 in Bouznika was highlighted as a significant step towards finding a lasting solution to the complex Libyan crisis. Secretary-General Aboul Gheit welcomed these efforts, emphasizing their importance in advancing the peace process.
The resolution adopted by the foreign ministers of the Arab League Council o echoed this sentiment, with the league’s foreign minister describing Morocco’s involvement as an “important step forward” in the quest for peace in Libya.
The resolution underscored the necessity of fully implementing the Libyan Political Agreement signed in the coastal Moroccan city Skhirat in 2015, emphasizing it as a fundamental basis for achieving a political settlement in Libya.
In addition to its role in the Libyan peace process, the Secretary-General’s report spotlighted Morocco’s contributions to strengthening the humanitarian and social aspects of Joint Arab Action.
Morocco’s successful hosting of the 5th meeting of the Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction resulted in the approval of the final version of the statute of the Arab-African Fund for Disaster Reduction, a pivotal step in bolstering disaster resilience in the region.

The Moroccan Center for Volunteering and Citizenship also played a crucial role in promoting social development. In cooperation with the General Secretariat of the League, it organized the 4th edition of the Arab Forum for Social Development in Casablanca from May 23 to 27, further underscoring Morocco’s dedication to the promotion and advancement of social well-being in the Arab world.
The report also highlighted Morocco’s commitment to regional collaboration by hosting various important gatherings. Notable among them were the meetings of the General Assembly (37th session), the Executive Bureau (57th meeting), and the committees of the Arab Union of Military Sports, which drew participation from 13 Arab states. Additionally, Morocco’s proposal, “One Health Approach,” was chosen as the slogan for the 60th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Health, exemplifying the nation’s influence in shaping regional healthcare strategies.
In the realm of media and information dissemination, Morocco made strides with the creation of the “Observatory and Integrated Platform.” This initiative, established as part of the Arab Media Action Plan abroad, will operate under the Kingdom’s stewardship as its headquarters, further enhancing the region’s media coordination and outreach efforts.

The report also called for continued collaboration with Morocco in the fight against terrorism. The Council of the Arab League urged member states to benefit from the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema and the Mohammed VI Institute for the Training of Morchidine and Morchidates Imams in Morocco, acknowledging the Kingdom’s pivotal role in countering terrorism in Africa.
Moreover, the Council commended Morocco for hosting the United Nations Counter-Terrorism and Training Programme Office in Africa, underscoring the nation’s dedication to fostering security and stability on the continent.
