Agadir – Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, received in Rabat today Major General Luis Peláez Piñeiro, Head of the Intelligence Commission of the Spanish Civil Guard.

The visit comes as the distinguished security partnership between the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), and the various Spanish security and intelligence services has reached an advanced level, becoming a model of cooperation in combating terrorism and all forms of transnational crime.

According to a statement from the DGSN-DGST security hub, the visit reflects the advanced level reached by security cooperation between Morocco and Spain, with collaboration between the two countries’ police, intelligence, and security services becoming a benchmark in combating terrorism and transnational crime.

The meeting also featured a ceremony during which several DGST and DGSN officials received high-ranking Spanish decorations under a decree issued by Spain’s Ministry of the Interior. The awards recognize their sustained contributions to strengthening operational cooperation and technical assistance between Moroccan and Spanish security authorities.

‘An indispensable strategic partner’

Moroccan authorities said the decorations reflect the depth of the strategic partnership between Morocco’s security services and Spain’s Civil Guard, as well as Spain’s appreciation for the professionalism demonstrated by Moroccan security officials in addressing shared cross-border threats.

The statement added that the honors reaffirm the strength of a bilateral security model built on mutual trust and close coordination, while recognizing Morocco’s role as a strategic partner in promoting regional and international security, particularly in the Mediterranean.

Speaking during the ceremony, Peláez Piñeiro described Morocco as an “indispensable strategic partner” in the fight against terrorism and organized crime, citing increasingly complex regional and international security challenges.

He said honoring Moroccan security officials recognizes their commitment to reinforcing bilateral cooperation and tackling common security threats, while also reflecting Spain’s appreciation for the level of partnership established between Morocco’s DGSN and DGST and the Spanish Civil Guard.
