Rabat – The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and LaLiga have announced that a minute of silence will be observed before tonight’s second division matches, in solidarity with the victims of Morocco’s earthquake.
The gesture will also be repeated in next week’ first division matches, which are currently on pause due to the international break. The games are set to be played on September 16 and 17.
Both organizations also conveyed their condolences to the families of the victims, and the solidarity of all of Spanish football to the people of Morocco, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reported.
“Our special relationship, for geographical, historical and sporting reasons, makes us feel this tragedy very closely,” noted the RFEF.
“The Royal Spanish Football Federation and LaLiga jointly invite the clubs and fans in our country to join this respectful minute of silence,” they added.
Several football clubs in Spain and across Europe have expressed solidarity and condolences following the quake, including FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester City.
