Rabat – Morocco’s Meteorology Directorate has denied reports that it issued a weather alert forecasting strong thunderstorms for the earthquake-affected areas.
The weather office said that there have been fallacies circulating on social media about a weather alert forecasting strong thunderstorms of up to 120 millimeters and strong winds of up to 95 kilometers per hour.
The directorate said that it did not confirm any warning in this regard, suggesting that Wednesday might experience some rain and weak thunderstorms that will affect the Middle Atlas highlands and neighboring plains.
Rain and thunderstorms are also expected to affect the regions of the High and Middle Atlas, as well as the western plains in Al Haouz, Taroudant, Azilal, Ouarzazate, and Marrakech on Thursday.
The false news on strong thunderstorms came amid ongoing rescue efforts to help people affected by the strong earthquake that struck Morocco on Friday.
The earthquake has killed over 2,800 people to date, while two thousand others were injured.
