Rabat – Far-right Dutch extremist Edwin Wagensveld has again torn a copy of the Quan in a new provocative Islamophobic act on Saturday.
Reports said that the aggressive act took place in front of the Turkish embassy in the Netherlands.
Wagensveld, who is the leader of the Dutch branch of the Islamophobic Pegida movement, also stepped on the pages of the Islamic holy book, Anadolu Agency reported.
The move stirred outrage and frustration from many Muslim communities, who have repeatedly called on the international community to intervene to end such provocative acts.
Turkiye also condemned the act, with the country’s Foreign Ministry calling on the Dutch authorities to take necessary action against the Pegida leader.
This is not the first time that Pegida figures have sparked worldwide outrage with their anti-Islam acts.
Leaders of the far-right group have carried out similar anti-Islam acts in the past months and throughout the past few years.
This is in addition to Sweden’s far-right extremists who carried out similar outrageous acts that wounded the feelings of over a billion Muslims worldwide.
These were carried out under the leadership of Danish-Swedish far-right politician Ramsus Paludan – who is known for organizing public demonstrations targeting Islam and Muslims in both Sweden and Denmark.
Earlier this week, Muslim leaders condemned the repeated hateful acts, including Quran burnings, during the UN General Assembly.
Leaders from Turkiye, Iran, and Qatar denounced the acts, describing them as “intolerable.”
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani urged against compromising the sanctity of others under the guise of freedom of expression. He also urged Muslims not to be provoked by acts aimed at desecrating the Quran, highlighting its sacred nature.
