Rabat – Morocco aims to export 100,000 tonnes of blueberries by 2030, according to new data.
The data was shared during the XXVII International Blueberry Seminar, which was marked by the participation of international speakers from different countries.
Meanwhile, Blueberry Consulting reported on Monday that attendees during the seminar from different countries confirmed the importance of Morocco’s blueberry industry.
According to data shared during the seminar, Morocco’s Morocco’s blueberry acreage increased by 800 hectares during the last season. This has allowed the country’s industry to reach 4,800 hectares.
The country aims to reach 6,000 cultivated hectares by 2030, when the country aims to reach a production of more than 100,000.
“Blueberry cultivation in Morocco had a late start with only 150 hectares in 2009, and a timid start in fruit export,” said the same source.
Converging reports have highlighted the quality of Morocco’s good blueberry industry. In a report earlier this year, East Fruit indicated Morocco was the seventh largest exporter of cultivated blueberries worldwide in 2017.
Morocco exported 53,000 tonnes of fresh blueberries in 2022, the same report noted, indicating that Peru, Chile and Spain were the only markets to exceed Morocco’s production. This means that Morocco became last year the world’s fourth largest exporter of fresh blueberries.
