Rabat – A sense of shock has enveloped the town of Arras, in northeastern France, after a knife attack left one teacher dead and two others severely wounded at a local school on Friday.
The suspect, identified as a former student, was apprehended by authorities.
French President Emmanuel Macron has headed to the scene in the city of Arras to address the situation. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin confirmed that the attacker was arrested.
French media outlets, including France Info and BFM, confirmed that the attacker is a former student of the school. Such incidents of school violence are rising in France, leaving the country’s communities frustrated .
In response to the tragedy, Naima Moutchou, a vice president of the lower house of parliament, issued a statement expressing solidarity and heartfelt condolences for the victims, their families, and the educational community.

“The National Assembly expresses its solidarity and thoughts for the victims, their families, and the educational community as we learn that a teacher has been killed and several others have been injured,” Moutchou said.
