Rabat – Cote d’Ivoire’s President Alassane Ouattara has yet again taken the Ivorian political scene by surprise with his decision to remove the prime minister and dissolve the government.
The presidency’s secretary general, Aboudramane Cisse, announced the news earlier today.
No specific reason was provided for this unexpected development, leaving the nation and international observers puzzled by the sudden shake-up. However, Cisse did express President Ouattara’s appreciation for the dedication and service of Prime Minister Patrick Achi and all government members throughout the past years.
According to Cisse, the outgoing government officials will continue to serve in a temporary capacity until a new prime minister and government are appointed, ensuring a level of continuity during this transitional period.
This is not the first time Prime Minister Patrick Achi has faced such a situation.
In April last year, Achi tendered his resignation along with his government after President Ouattara announced his plans to reduce the number of ministerial positions in an effort to streamline his cabinet. However, Achi was reappointed to his position just a week later.

As Cote d’Ivoire approaches the presidential election scheduled for 2025, speculation is mounting about President Ouattara’s intentions.
Having been re-elected in 2020 for a third time, he has not yet made a clear statement regarding his potential candidacy for another term. The recent government shake-up adds another layer of intrigue to the country’s political landscape.
