Rabat – Morocco has called for an emergency Arab League meeting at the ministerial level to discuss the deteriorating situation in the besieged Gaza Strip.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the news, saying that the meeting comes under instructions from King Mohammed VI.
The meeting seeks to coordinate and consult on the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip and the outbreak of military actions targeting civilians, as well as to explore ways to halt the dangerous escalation.
“The intensive consultations are underway to hold the meeting during this week at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo,” the statement added.
Fighting between Israeli forces and the Palestinian group Hamas continued on Sunday following a surprise attack from the resistance movement on Israel in the early hours of Saturday.
Following the attack, the Israeli government declared the beginning of a “long and difficult war,” launching a series of strikes on the Gaza Strip.
Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have lived a “night of terror and darkness” due to Israel’s air attacks and a power outage, Al Jazeera reported today.
The Israeli attacks targeted residential buildings as well as Hamas offices in Gaza, the report added.
Palestinian news agency WAFA said today that the war on Gaza Strip has caused the death of 313 Palestinians since Saturday morning, with nearly 2,000 sustaining injuries.
Reports have also said that the attacks killed over 200 Israelis since Saturday morning.
