Rabat – Senior US senator from South Carolina Lindsey Graham has sparked uproar following his heinous remarks, calling for the mass killing of Palestinians.
Graham appeared on a Fox News interview on Tuesday, describing the situation in Gaza as a “religious war.”
“We are in a religious war here, I am with Israel. Whatever the hell you have to do to defend yourselves; level the place,” he said in reference to the densely populated city of Gaza, home to an estimated 2.3 million people, including 1.7 million refugees.
The senator has remained unapologetic for his remarks, as he has shared an extract where he appears to be calling for more Israeli assaults on Palestinians. The senator chose to pin the short footage on his social media– in particular X, formerly known as Twitter.
The situation stirred uproar from many, including human rights activists and international journalists.
English journalist Matt Kennard responded to Graham’s hostile appeal, describing it as an “open incitement to genocide on America’s most watched news station.”
“Gaza is home to 2 million people, half of them children,” he wrote on Wednesday.
Many internet users took to social media to express concerns about Graham’s remarks.
A user on X, formerly Twitter said: “Lindsey Graham will be brought before the courts for warning crimes.”
Another user said that the war between Palestine and Israel “exposed the true colors of the Western politicians.”
“Lindsey Graham is calling for a crusade and he hasn’t lost his position the second after this tweet is ridiculous. I don’t think peace is possible,” he added.
Academic and activist Eman Abdelhadi also listed a series of US politicians, who made controversial remarks.
“American politicians who have called for genocide so far: American politicians who have called for genocide so far: Nikki Haley “finish ‘em” Marco Rubio “…there’s no way Israel can be expected to coexist with these savages…they have to be eradicated.” Linsey Graham “level the place” Who else?” she wrote on her X account.
Graham’s remarks come amid the US’ continued support for Israel amid the onslaught of reprisal assault on civilians in Gaza and the West Bank. Palestinian officials confirmed that the assaults caused as many as 1,200 deaths among Palestinians, including many women and children.
On Wednesday, a first plane carrying US military aid to support Israel’s offensive on Gaza landed.
Al Jazeera said that the US is also believed to “be providing more interceptors to Israel” along other munitions.
