Rabat – King Abdullah II of Jordan has warned against pushing Palestinians to take refuge in Jordan or Egypt amid Israeli aggression targeting civilians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

The Jordanian King made his remarks during a visit to Berlin at a press conference following his meeting in Berlin with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin.

“That is a red line, because I think that is the plan by certain of the usual suspects to try and create de facto issues on the ground. No refugees in Jordan, no refugees in Egypt,” he said

For King Abdullah, the alarming humanitarian situation in Gaza should be dealt with inside the besieged, unrelentingly shelled enclave and the West Bank. He argued that reports of an imminent evacuation of Palestinians from Gaza are part of the “plan by some of the usual suspects to try to create de facto problems on the ground.”

The Arab leader, noting that he is qualified to speak not only on behalf of Jordan but also on behalf of “our friends in Egypt,” warned against Palestinians putting their future on the shoulders of others.

Gaza and the occupied West Bank have been facing relentless and indiscriminate shelling by Israeli troops, who have been killing thousands of civilians — including children and women.

The death toll from the Israeli aggression has reached at least 3,000 victims, while 12,500 people have been injured in the past 11 days since Israel stepped up its aggressive campaign on besieged Palestinian enclaves.

More than 61 Palestinians have been killed by army gunfire in the occupied West Bank, while 1,250 people have also been wounded,, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported today.

“The numbers are expected to surge significantly as the barbaric Israeli bombardment and mass killings in Gaza continue unabated and bodies are removed from under the rubble of their demolished homes and buildings,” the report added.
