Rabat – The Palestinian toll from the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza and the West Bank has surged to alarming figures, with over 11,451 lives lost.
As the new cycle of violence enters its 40th day, harrowing statistics from Palestinian health officials reveal a humanitarian crisis of unprecedented proportions.
The vast majority of the deaths were recorded in Gaza, with 11,255 fatalities and tens of thousands of injuries. The West Bank has not been immune to the aggression, with Israeli attacks killing 196 Palestinians and injuring more than 2,592. In addition, approximately 2,570 Palestinians were detained.
The toll on the health sector is severe, as major hospitals remain out of service, under siege, or directly hit by Israeli airstrikes.
This includes Al Shifa Hospital, Gaza’s biggest medical facility, which is currently inoperational due to the lack of fuel and Israeli siege.
In total, 25 out of 34 hospitals in the region were incapacitated and 52 health care centers are no longer operational.
In addition, 198 medical professionals lost their lives while 154 others were injured.
The city of Gaza witnessed widespread devastation, with over 222,300 house units damaged, more than 54,100 of which were completely destroyed.
This has forced over 1.6 million people from their homes, with 700,000 seeking refuge in UNRWA schools.
Journalists and media outlets have not been spared from the attacks, as 51 journalists were killed and more than 117 media offices destroyed.
Thousands of displaced individuals have been seeking shelter in public facilities, including schools and mosques, which were also targeted by Israeli airstrikes.
Israeli forces have dropped an estimated 32,000 tons of explosives on Gaza since October 7, causing extensive destruction of infrastructure, industrial facilities, agricultural land, and the electricity network, leaving over 70% of Gaza in darkness.
As the aggression deepens, the utility crisis compounds the suffering, with a complete blackout since October 7 and a water supply cut off early in the aggression.
