A group of French ambassadors across countries in the Middle East and North Africa have expressed dissatisfaction with Emmanuel Macron’s approach to the Israeli genocidal war in Gaza.
Le Figaro said on Monday that about 10 ambassadors in the Middle East and certain countries in North Africa collectively drafted and signed a note denouncing Macron’s pro-Israeli position taken by Macron amid aggression targeting civilians in Gaza.
“The note, sent to the Quai d’Orsay with recipients at the Elysee, is described by a diplomat in Paris who has read it as not a fiery rebuke but rather a dissenting note,” Le Figaro wrote, noting that the ambassadors regretted that France’s stance is not well received in the Middle East.
The pro-Israeli approach taken by Macron also represents a break from France’s “traditionally balanced approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” the French news outlet added.
The report came following Macron’s attempts to smooth over tensions following his harshest comments against Israel last week
Politico said that Macron held talks with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Israel’s War Cabinet minister Benny Ganz in an attempt to reassure Israel of France’s position in phone calls on Sunday.
According to the news report, Macron reiterated France’s position and solidarity with Israel as the country is “faced with the horror of the terrorist attacks.”
Reporting on Macron’s call with Herzog on Sunday, the Times of Israel quoted the ISraeli president as recalling Macron’s reassurance that “did not intend to accuse Israel of intentionally harming innocent civilians in the campaign against the terrorist organization Hamas.”
According to the Israeli newspaper, “President Macron also emphasized that he unequivocally supports Israel’s right and duty to self-defense, and expressed his support for Israel’s war against Hamas.”

Macron’s remarks to Herzog came after many top Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, had slammed Macon for appearing to criticize Israel’s conduct of its murderous war on Gaza.
In particular, Netanyahu had slammed the French president for making “serious mistakes, factually and morally.”
He also claimed: “It’s Hamas preventing the evacuation of civilians, not Israel,” he claimed. “It’s not Israel that locates itself in hospitals, in schools, in UNRWA and UN facilities — it’s Hamas.
Therefore, it is not Israel but Hamas that is responsible for harm to civilians.” The statement came following Macron’s harshest remarks against Israel since the beginning of its genocidal war in Gaza.
Last week, the French President condemned Israeli attacks, stressing that there was no “justification” for bombing babies, women and the elderly.
“There is no reason for that and no legitimacy. So we do urge Israel to stop,” Macron said last week.
