Rabat – Morocco’s achievements at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar have raised its international image, according to a report from the Royal Institute for Strategic Studies (IRES).
The report, done in collaboration with Reputation Lab, encompassed data from 27 countries, including the major economic powers of the G7 and Russia, positioning Morocco 34th in the global reputation index.
The report speculates that the country’s remarkable achievement in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar might have played a pivotal role in the improvement of the number of countries carrying a positive image.
In 2022, The Moroccan national team achieved an impressive fourth-place finish, becoming the first African team to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup tournament.

In Africa, Morocco enjoyed a positive reputation in countries such as South Africa, Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, and Nigeria.
European nations like Germany, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, and Sweden also reported favorable views of the North African countries.
This reputation extended to countries in the Americas, the Middle East, and Asia.
Morocco has experienced a minor decline of two places since 2022, but maintained a RepScore indicator of 47.9 points (a dip that aligns closely with the global average).
The report further reveals that Morocco’s global awareness level, which stood at 69.2% in 2022, has increased by 1.5% in 2023, reaching 70.7%, with a comfortable 3.4% margin compared to the 60 nations assessed in the ranking.
Previous reports have shown similar findings, with the country’s tourism and online search figures surging following the triumphs at the Qatar World Cup.
A report from Dubai-based media intelligence provider CARMA showed that Google search trends related to the country skyrocketed after the global tournament, rising by 273%, while Wikipedia page visits for Morocco surged by 453%.
After becoming the first African semi-finalists of the World Cup, Morocco’s women’s team also made history by making it to the 2023 Women’s World Cup round of 16. Notably, the country is also set to host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
