Rabat – FC Bayern Munich right-back and Moroccan international Noussair Mazraoui met recently with representatives of the Jewish community in Munich, converging media reports indicated on Thursday.
This significant encounter, which Bayern initiated to underscore its commitment to addressing recent controversies over Mazraoui’s criticism of Israel’s war on Gaza, took place at the Munich Jewish Community Center.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen attended the meeting, while the Jewish community was represented by “the former president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Charlotte Knobloch, and politician Peter Guttmann,” the website DailySports reported.
While the specifics of the discussions that transpired during the meeting remain confidential, the very fact that such a dialogue took place sends a powerful message about the importance of open communication and reconciliation.
The meeting concluded with a statement from Charlotte Knobloch, President of the Jewish community in Munich and Upper Bavaria.
She emphasized the significance of this conversation and expressed her support for FC Bayern’s assessment of the dialogue as a positive step, satating: “Since everyone has agreed to keep the content confidential, we kindly ask for your understanding that we cannot provide further details.”

This meeting was convened in the wake of a complaint filed by Volker Beck, a German Green Party politician, with the Munich police and prosecutor’s office against Noussair Mazraoui. The complaint was related to the footballer’s social media post expressing solidarity with Palestine amid Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza.
Beck characterized Mazraoui’s support for the Palestinian cause as an “apology for a crime” and emphasized that “approving crimes against humanity is a punishable offense.”
He maintained that even after Mazraoui’s verbal apologies, his support for the Palestinian cause remained a serious concern. Beck also criticized FC Bayern’s handling of the situation and expressed hope that the legal process would make the club’s leadership realize the gravity of the matter.
Mazraoui’s social media post in support of Palestine had generated significant controversy in Germany, with hostile reactions from leading German news outlets and political figures.
But many football fans reacted differently to the player’s support for Palestine, applauding his courageous and humane gesture while deploring what they called the German government’s and media’s guilty indifference to the plight of Palestinains, including children murdered as a result of Israel’s aggressive Gaza campaign.
At a time when many are calling for a ceasefire or at least a “humanitarian pause” in Gaza, the dialogue between Mazraoui and representatives of the Jewish community in Munich may be seens as a constructive step toward communication and better understanding in times of bitter polarization.
