Rabat – The dire humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip is continuing to unfold, as civilians grapple with a severe denial of essential needs amid escalating violence and aggression.
Lack of access to food, safe water, health care, shelter, and protection are placing the lives of thousands at risk.
Ahmed Al-Mandhari, the Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO), delivered a stark warning during a regional press briefing on health emergencies, stating: “Nowhere is safe for civilians, including our own colleagues and other members of the United Nations family.”
Al-Mandhari added that “the death and maiming of innocent civilians must stop.”
“They have done nothing to deserve the unimaginable hardships they are now being forced to endure,” he emphasized.
WHO has recorded 178 attacks on health care facilities in the Gaza Strip, resulting in 553 fatalities and 696 casualties, including health workers on duty.
As the violence continues, 27 out of 36 hospitals, two specialty centers, and 47 out of 72 primary health care clinics have been forced to shut down, leaving thousands without access to crucial health services.
“As health facilities shut down due to conflict or lack of resources, our ability to provide health care to the population is plummeting, while the health needs are soaring,” warned the WHO official.
The number of Palestinians killed since October 7 has reached a staggering 14,532, including approximately 6,000 children, according to the government media office.
The situation continues as the international community, especially Arab and Middle Eastern countries continue calling for an urgent ceasefire to stop the civilian deaths in the region.
