The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has reiterated concerns about the US’ approach in turning a blind eye against Israel’s aggression targeting civilians across Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
The council issued a statement accusing US President Joe Biden of being complicit in Israel’s war crimes on Palestinians.
“Sadly, it now appears that President Biden is intent on ignoring the American people and enabling Benjamin Netanyahu’s campaign of genocide, ethnic cleansing and mass starvation in Gaza,” CAIR’s National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said.
Recalling Biden’s remarks on Israeli involvement in the indiscriminate bombing of Gaza, Ahmed Mitchell emphasized that the US President should listen to “the majority of Americans who support an end to this violence and the pursuit of a just, lasting peace.”
This is not the first time that CAIR has criticized Biden’s approach.
Earlier this month, CAIR urged the US administration to investigate reports on Israeli executions of women, children and babies seeking refuge in a school in Gaza.
“Because the Biden administration stands almost alone on the world stage in defending and enabling the far-right Israeli government’s campaign of ethnic cleansing and genocide in Gaza, administration officials must respond to the reported execution-style massacre of women, children and babies seeking refuge in a school in Gaza,” the council’s national communications director Ibrahim Hooper said.
CAIR also vowed to stand against Biden during his election campaign.
“We told him directly, in our personal capacities, that if you do not call for an immediate ceasefire, you will not get our votes in 2024,” the head of the council Nihad Awad told Anadolu Agency in November.
He said that there is “no possibility” for the community to give Biden any support following his stance.
Israeli occupation forces have been intensifying attacks against Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, where at least 22,000 people have been murdered since October 7.
Despite the Israeli occupation forces’ involvement, the US continues to use its power in the Security Council to protect Israel, using its veto powers to block any resolutions calling for a ceasefire.
