Rabat – Israeli occupation soldiers have attacked Al Jazeera correspondent Montaser Nassar and a photographer accompanying him in the Hebron region of the occupied West Bank.
Al Jazeera reported that the soldiers severely beat the two journalists and confiscated their equipment while they were preparing to shoot a live report on a rooftop in the Wadi al-Shajna area, south of the town of Dura.
“Nassar said the soldiers attacked them without warning and did not issue a request to leave before beating the men,” the outlet reported.
This is not the first time that Israel has carried out such attacks against journalists who are trying to cover its war against Palestinian civilians.
Earlier this month, an Israeli missile attack injured Al Jazeera’s Gaza Bureau Chief Wael Al-Dahdouh and killed his colleague Samer Abu Daqqa.
It was not the first time for Al Dahdouh himself to be targeted, as an airstrike had hit his home, killing his wife as well as his son and daughter.
As of December 23, the death toll of journalists in the Israeli offensive had reached 99, prompting international calls from human rights advocates to protect reporters in the region.
Another notable case was that of Al-Araby Al-Jadeed journalist Diaa Al-Kahlout, who was arrested along with some family members before being seen in video footage where he was stripped down to his underwear and made to sit down on the street.
Al-Kahlout was transferred to an Israeli military base earlier this month, according to one of his colleagues, with his family expressing concern regarding his health condition.
On December 22, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) filed a second complaint to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the deaths of the Palestinian journalists murdered by the Israeli forces.
“RSF has reasonable grounds to believe that the journalists named in this complaint were the victims of attacks amounting to war crimes. According to the information collected by RSF, these journalists may have been deliberately targeted as journalists,” the organization said.
