Rabat – The Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation in Rabat has reportedly rejected Moroccan singer Dounia Batma’s appeal against a 2021 verdict confirming her direct involvement in the notorious “Hamza mon bb” blackmail case.
Moroccan news outlet Le360 quoted a judicial source as saying that the court rejected Batma’s appeal against the initial prison sentence she had been handed for her involvement in the “Hamza mon BB” case.
In January 2021, the Marrakech Court of Appeal sentenced the signer to one year in prison for her involvement in the case.
The court previously sentenced the controversial singer to eight months in prison in July 2020. The singer however appealed the decision.
In its latest verdict in 2021, the court added four months to Batma’s original sentence. Despite the verdict, the singer was not jailed and has continued her activities, including singing at weddings, private parties, and clubs, in addition to releasing albums.
The court had also previously upheld sentences against Ibtissam Batma, Dounia’s sister, who was sentenced to one year in prison in July 2020.
The singer’s sister served her prison term along with other suspects, including Sophia Chakri, and Aicha Ayach.
“Hamza mon bb” has made international headlines since 2018. The singer and her sister Ibtissam have faced several charges over the years, including prosecution for accessing personal data to disseminate people’s private conversations and pictures through online applications without the victim’s consent.
The charges include sharing people’s information with the intention to undermine privacy and reputation.
The notorious “Hamza mon bb” case refers to a social network account that was active on Instagram and Snapchat, which used to share indecent photos, videos, and other content that sought to undermine people’s privacy.
