Rabat – King Mohammed VI has renewed Morocco’s commitment to enhancing human rights in a letter he addressed to participants at the International Symposium held in Rabat on the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
In his message, the King emphasized that Morocco’s commitment to improving human rights is reflected in the country’s efforts in consolidating and perfecting the rule of law and strengthening institutions.

“Our commitment to human rights has become a defining element of public policy and a basic determinant of the strategic decisions we make, be it in the economic, social, cultural or environmental sectors,” the King said, reiterating his firm commitment to defending and upholding human rights in addition to strengthening the rule of law and strengthening the country’s institutions.
He also listed the country’s efforts to boost human rights, including structural reforms covering universal health coverage, social protection, and support for vulnerable citizens.
“This is a societal project designed to guarantee effective access to social and health services, while strengthening the pillars of our national solidarity system”, he said.
The monarch also recalled his instructions for the review of the country’s Family Code to safeguard the rights of women and children.

He said that the reforms should be in one with the principles of “justice, equality, solidarity, and harmony, all of which stem from our pristine Islamic faith.”
In September, the monarch instructed Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch to ensure the revision of the country’s family code.
The royal cabinet announced the news in a statement, saying that the King’s decision is in line with the royal decree announced by him during the Throne Day speech in 2022.
In the speech, the King stressed the significance of social inclusion in family law, stressing that all decisions and recommendations should respect Islamic law, also known as Sharia.
The King called on all concerned parties and stakeholders to collectively engage with the government to ensure the success of the family code revision.
Morocco’s National Human Rights Council (CNDH) is hosting the international symposium on December 7-8.

The forum aims to serve as a platform for the exchange of ideas and perspectives. It also seeks to serve as an opportunity for participants to share their perspectives with regard to human rights.
The forum will also provide an opportunity to assess humanity’s ability to transcend its boundaries and create a common ground that benefits from various perspectives, involving in-depth academic and intellectual discussions, the CNDH said in a previous press release on the symposium.
