The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards ceremony in Marrakech will convene top African football players, including legends whose names are still resonating with football fans across the world.
The awards ceremony will take place tomorrow at the Palais des Congres, Movenpick in Marrakech at 7 p.m. local time.
CAF announced an A-list of football personalities that confirmed their presence, in addition to celebrities from the music and art worlds.
The list includes former Cameroneese football star Samuel Eto’o, in addition to Egypt’s Ahmed Hassan, and Senegal’s El Hadji Diouf.
Togolese legend Emmanuel Adebayor will also be present, along with Ghana’s Abdei Pele, Nigeria’s Jay-Jay Okocha, Burkinabe star Joathan Pitroipa, and Morocco’s Mustapha El Haddaoui.
“These renowned personalities will bring an aura of grandeur to the event and help make this edition of the CAF Awards even more memorable,” CAF said in its statement.
On Thursday, the federation announced the full list of shortlisted nominees featuring several Moroccan players.
The list included the Moroccan men’s and women’s national teams, which will be competing for the “National Team of the Year” awards.
The Player of the Year award features Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi alongside Mohammed Salah from Egypt and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen.
CAF has faced backlash for not including Yassine Bounou in the shortlist for Player of the Year.
The selection did not sit well with Moroccan football fans who have taken issue with the governing body of African football for overlooking Bounou despite his stellar performances for both Sevilla and the Moroccan national team over the past year.
Many argued that Salah does not deserve to be in the shortlist for his “poor performances” with Liverpool last season.
