Rabat – Barcelona have reportedly reached an agreement with Manchester City to sign Spain midfielder Rodri in a deal that could rise to approximately $88.5 million.
According to reports on Sunday, the proposed agreement includes around $69.4 million as a fixed fee, with a further $19.1 million in performance-related add-ons. The dollar figures are approximate conversions based on the European Central Bank’s latest reference rate of $1.1567 per euro.
The transfer has not yet been officially announced by Barcelona or Manchester City, meaning Rodri remains a City player until the remaining formalities are completed.
Separate reports support the claim that negotiations have reached their final stages, although there are slight differences over the exact financial structure. Cadena SER reported on Sunday that the clubs had reached an agreement in principle after around 10 days of negotiations, placing the fee close to €70 million, while talkSPORT reported an agreement worth approximately £65.3 million.
Barcelona had previously seen two offers rejected. Manchester City turned down an initial proposal worth around €45 million before rejecting an improved bid of approximately €60 million, with the Premier League club seeking a higher fee for the midfielder.

Rodri has only one year remaining on his City contract and has reportedly made Barcelona his preferred destination. City coach Enzo Maresca declined to guarantee the midfielder’s future when questioned on Friday, saying transfers remained possible before the window closes.
Barcelona close in on major midfield addition
The 30-year-old returned to Manchester last week after his post-World Cup break but did not feature in City’s 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal on Sunday. Reuters reported after the game that Rodri is expected to leave, while Maresca confirmed that City remain active in the transfer market.
Rodri would arrive at Barcelona following an exceptional summer with Spain. The midfielder captained his country to the 2026 World Cup title and was named the tournament’s Golden Ball winner, further strengthening his status as one of the leading midfielders in world football.
Barcelona see him as a natural option at the base of Hansi Flick’s midfield, particularly with Frenkie de Jong currently recovering from a knee injury.
Reports in Spain have suggested that Barcelona hope to complete the remaining paperwork quickly enough to introduce Rodri ahead of Wednesday’s Joan Gamper Trophy match against Al Ahly.
Barcelona’s official schedule confirms the Egyptian club will visit for the Gamper game on August 19.
