Rabat – In collaboration with the US Department of State, the Near East Foundation, the Elsa & Peter Soderberg Charitable Foundation, and Islamic Relief USA, Marrakech’s Emerging Business Factory is now home to the inaugural Coalition for Climate Entrepreneurship (CCE) Hub.
The hub is a revolutionary makerspace designed to empower climate-focused entrepreneurs and accelerate the deployment of low-carbon solutions across the MENA region.
Amidst the bustling Marrakech landscape, the CCE Hub, officially launched on December 12, signals a pivotal stride toward combating the global climate crisis through innovation and economic empowerment.
Global opportunity in the face of climate crisis
The urgency to confront climate change head-on has prompted a concerted effort to transform energy production and consumption. With clean energy investments surging from less than $50 billion to over $250 billion annually over the past decade, the International Energy Agency projects cumulative investment in the power sector to approach nearly $17 trillion from 2012–2035.
Recognizing the pivotal role entrepreneurship plays in this transformative journey, the US Department of State launched the CCE at COP26 in Glasgow.
The CCE, a public-private partnership, unites government and private sector giants such as Salesforce, LinkedIn, General Electric (GE), ARM, MassChallenge, and more, aiming to fuel economic empowerment and climate solutions in developing countries.
CCE Hub unleashes innovation in Marrakech
From December 11-15, the CCE Hub in Marrakech hosted an incubator, becoming a crucible for emerging entrepreneurs to forge solutions addressing both the climate crisis and skills-building.
Interactive workshops, coaching sessions, and project presentations by innovative start-ups marked the incubator’s activities, culminating in the selection of the most promising ventures for further mentorship and training.
The CCE Hub’s makerspace in Marrakech offers climate-focused entrepreneurs access to cutting-edge hardware, software, a collaborative community, and essential resources.
Over the next 24 months, dozens of companies from the MENA region are expected to engage with the CCE Hub, propelling their ventures toward scalability and market impact.
Global impact, local roots
The Marrakech CCE Hub joins its predecessor in Accra, Ghana, which opened its doors in February 2023. This network of CCE Hubs provides spaces for young entrepreneurs to pioneer sustainable solutions, exchange ideas, and refine their innovations.
The hubs are not isolated entities; as more come online, laboratories will connect, share ideas, and collaboratively combat the pressing global climate crisis.
In the intersection of innovation, economic empowerment, and environmental impact, the Coalition for Climate Entrepreneurship’s Marrakech CCE Hub stands as a testament to the power of collaborative action in addressing the challenges of our time.
