Rabat – Militants from the separatist Polisario Front reportedly carried out a new attack in the southern regions of Morocco last night.

Converging reports revealed that four, with some saying three, explosive projectiles were fired at the city of Aousserd, located in the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region, reminiscent of a similar incident in Es-Semara in October.

No human or material losses were reported, as the attack occurred in the area of “Araqib Oued Essar,” around six kilometers away from residential areas.

Reports indicated that the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces, Royal Gendarmerie, and personnel from the UN peacekeeping mission in Western Sahara (MINURSO) have attended the site of the explosive projectiles to assess the incident.

While Moroccan authorities have not disclosed details about the incident or the point of origin of the projectiles, tensions rise as these actions echo previous attacks by the Polisario Front in the same region.

Attacks targeted several residential areas in Es-Semara on October 29, claiming the life of an individual and injuring three others.

Following the attack, which Polisario claimed responsibility for, Morocco’s Permanent Representative at the UN Omar Hilale vowed that the country will take necessary measures against the perpetrators.

“Morocco is a law-abiding country. At this moment, we are in the investigative phase, collecting information,” Hilale said.

He stressed that Morocco is not accusing anyone as it is simply waiting for the conclusive results of the ongoing investigations.

Residents from across Morocco’s southern provinces, including Laayoune, Es-Semara, and Dakhka, have taken to the streets to denounce the Es-Semara attack and demand accountability.

Over recent months, the Polisario Front has consistently issued statements claiming responsibility for various attacks on Morocco’s southern regions.

These declarations often coincided with diplomatic visits and military engagements. Despite the frequent assertions, Moroccan authorities have not acknowledged or commentedon Polisario’s claims.
