Rabat – Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair disclosed a $1.4 billion investment plan to bolster its presence in Morocco.
The announcement, made on December 13, will increase Ryanair’s flights to 1,100 weekly flights across 175 routes, featuring 35 brand-new connections.
Ryanair’s move to boost its operations in Morocco comes ahead of the anticipated rise in demand as the country is set to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup in a joint bid with Spain and Portugal.
In a statement, Ryanair said that its debut in the Moroccan domestic market will see the company operating 11 internal routes.
The company’s Summer 2024 schedule is set to cater to over 5 million passengers, a 33% surge in traffic to, from, and now within Morocco.
In line with its aim to strengthen its market foothold in Morocco, Ryanair equally announced the establishment of a fourth Moroccan base in Tangier under a $200 million investment plan and the introduction of two aircraft.
In addition, Ryanair’s flights will now extend to Beni-Mellal and Errachidia airports.
The company says that its investment is directly providing over 500 positions for pilots, cabin crew, and engineers, as well as supporting thousands more in the tourism sector across 12 cities, including Rabat, Marrakesh, Fez, Agadir, Tangier, Ouarzazate, and Essaouira.
Eddie Wilson, CEO of Ryanair DAC, celebrated the news. “This is a historic day for the partnership between Ryanair and the Kingdom of Morocco,” he said.
“Ryanair is proud to unveil a $1.4bn major investment in Morocco for Summer ’24 which with our biggest Summer schedule delivers more than 5m passengers to/from, and within the Kingdom of Morocco.”
