Rabat – Morocco’s House of Representatives Speaker, Rachid Talbi El Alami, represented King Mohammed VI at the inauguration ceremony of re-elected Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina.
The ceremony took place on Saturday in the capital Antananarivo at the Barea Stadium, with several heads of state and other figures present.
The King extended a message of congratulations to Rajoelina, expressing a determination to maintain the ties between the two countries “with a view to expanding areas of bilateral cooperation, in the service of our two peoples and our African continent.”
Rajoelina was re-elected on November 16 with 59% of the vote.
Over the past few years, Morocco and Madagascar have developed their ties, consolidating cooperation in various fields.
Earlier this year, a delegation from Madagascar’s Ministry of Agriculture visited Morocco’s National Office for Food Safety as part of the agriculture cooperation between the two countries.
Madagascar is also one of the countries that support Morocco’s position on Western Sahara, having voiced support for the Moroccan Autonomy Plan back in 2021.
“The position of Madagascar is unchanged. It is a position of full support for HM King Mohammed VI, within the framework of Morocco’s territorial claim over the Sahara,” the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Patrick Rajoelina said in 2021 to Morocco’s press agency (MAP).
